National Healthcare Decisions Day is April 17, 2018. The day is dedicated to inspire, educate and empower the public and providers about the importance of advance care planning (ACP). Making Choices Michigan, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is honored to host Cathy Wurzer for a special presentation, followed by a panel discussion with local ACP experts. As a long time broadcast journalist in Minnesota, Cathy partnered with Bruce Kramer, an educator and musician, as he traveled his ALS journey. The award winning series of on-air conversations with Bruce proved to be a life-changing experience for Cathy, professionally and personally. The conversations and book has been described as a “dignified, courageous, and unflinching look at how acceptance of loss and inevitable death can lead us all to a more meaningful and fulfilling life.

The greatest gift you can give your loved ones is telling them what you want. Your quality of life should never be left up to a guess. Let your loved ones know what is important to you in a healthcare emergency before it happens.

National Healthcare Decision Day is an annual event, which aims to help people across the country, understand the value of Advance Care Planning (ACP) – the process of discussing what a person’s healthcare decisions would be if they were unable to make them as well as designating and preparing a Patient Advocate to make those decisions. In honor of this national event, Mercy Health will be offering a FREE Advance Care Planning seminar to help guide you through this decision process and provide you with tools to help you communicate your wishes to your patient advocate, family/loved ones and healthcare providers.

Spaces are limited so please contact Nicky Lewis at lewisnm@mercyhealth.com or at 616-685-6115 to reserve a space for you and your family/loved ones.
